“We live in the church!”<\/span><\/font><\/strong><\/strong> says Janine Houston. “Because the word church<\/span><\/font><\/em><\/em> means ‘God’s people’ – we are church. We do life together, rescue people in crisis & care for people.” JEM stands for Justice, Empowerment, Mission. There are 17 living in the house at the moment – in an outer Melbourne suburb. The kettle is always on. Some go to school & college. Dave is finding the support the best yet of any drug rehabilitation program he has been on – and, as well as making his regular payment for house expenses, he participates in the weekly contribution of $20 that will allow him to go to Asia or Africa to serve as a volunteer for homeless streetkids. On Monday nights up to 35 people drop in for a community dinner – and worship. “Every day people worship – it just happens,” says Janine. A number of Bible college students live in the house – and “we learn how to put into practice the life of Jesus,” they say.
