Barna – Revolution

Barna, George. Revolution. Carol Springs, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, 2005. Barna suggests that we are seeing the most significant recalibration of local church for over 150 years. He believes research is indicating we are in the midst of a revival that is radically different to all previous revivals, in that this spiritual revolution in the western (northern) world is leading people to disconnect from church to grow spiritually, rather than to attend church. These spiritual revolutionaries find their mandate in the descriptions of early Christians found in Acts 2, 4 and 5 – and from these Barna identifies their seven core passions. I could be entirely wrong, but I think that we are at a critical time for local church and denominational leaders. A revolution is happening. People are choosing different forms of church. Our reactions and responses could create new roles and forms for the local church or result in cataclysmic decline.
